Hiking with Grandma

Kurt's mom cam to visit us last week. Kurt had to work most of the time, so the kids and I tried to kill entertained Grandma Karla by taking her on a hike.

It was not our best hike performance - we didn't make it to the end and there was lots of complaining between the start and finish, but I hope she had fun :)

Yeah Austin!!

Austin had his birthday a couple weeks ago - 11 years old!!

His sisters made him a poster:

And last week he received his Arrow of Light and graduated from cub scouts:

And tomorrow he's going to scout camp and will have his first scout overnight campout on Friday. My baby is all grown up!

I tried to find a baby picture, but it looks like most of our old pictures files are unreadable :( I'll have to see what Kurt can do about that! This video was when Austin was about 4 months old. His first time eating food (peas) and he scarfed it down!

Special Olympics

A few weeks ago, Austin, Nyah, and I had the oppportunity to help with the Utah Special Olympics Summer Games which were held at a local high school.

Our first job was cheerleaders. We enjoyed watching and cheering on the athletes competing in the shot putt.

Our second job we helped on the track - I recorded the times and places for each race. Austin and Nyah then ran the results to the awards table.

We had a great afternoon!

Do not be fooled!

This may look like an ordinary red potato.

But it's not.

Sophie calls this potato her "baby."

It's incredibly cute to see her rocking it and singing "rock-a-bye-baby".

But I'm a little tired of finding it all over the house - on couches, in beds, in bathrooms - and putting it back in the cupboard :)

Recognize this skeleton?

Well, you should! It's Olivia!

This week Olivia joined a few medical studies on NF1 - she had bone scans, measurements galore, doctor exam, blood draw, and she did lots of jumping, running, hopping, skipping, and answering questions! questions! questions!

All day long I signed consent forms that said,
"Your child may not receive direct immediate benefit for being in this study.  However, the results from this study may help other individuals in the future."

And yes, it will be amazing if her participation in these studies helps others in the future, but I hope these studies will help Olivia too.

Would you like to help?

We would {love love love} to have you join Olivia's Team for the Salt Lake NF Walk on August 25th at Sugar House Park.

If you can't join us for the walk, please consider making a donation to help us reach our fundraising goal - Richards' Family donation page.
