Homeschooling

The last couple months I've had a few friends and family members ask what we do for homeschool. I just finished up a post on our homeschool blog that goes over our current plans if you are interested - Fall 2012. Family Staycation

Kurt had some vacation time and we decided to stay home and have fun here in the Salt Lake Valley.

We went to the zoo to see the new Rocky Shores area and of course, visit all our favorite places.

 

We went to the Natural History Museum of Utah

 Kurt, Austin, Nyah, and I went on the Timpanogos cave hike.

We saw a Thompson's big-eared bat inside the cave (sadly no picture) and a Stellar's Jay on our hike down.

We played in the backyard

We rode bikes and scooters

We went to the Living Planet Aquarium and pet the sharks

We also went swimming and saw Brave and had so much fun together. It was a wonderful, relaxing week!

August part 6 - Odds & Ends

I happen to think our Sophie-girl is the cutest little girl around.

Haircuts - eek!!

Jo also had her haircut - mostly to even out all the chunks she cut out. She then decided to add a little embellishment :) And remind me why we do not have markers in our house. EVER EVER EVER

Austin & Nayh's soccer season is over. So sad.

Our little blondie is just so adorable.  

August part 5 - Salt Lake NF Walk 2012

Our family had a wonderful time at the Salt Lake NF Walk this year. It was so good to see old friends and make new ones.

We missed those of you who couldn't make it - next year!!

August - part 4

A day or so after we came home from Idaho, Austin and I were part of a "livestock at large" rescue. Headed home we came upon a sheep and a goat walking down the street.

This street is empty and dead-ends into the base of the mountain where the fire was burning - which would be behind all the houses in the picture below. It's likely the fire had separated them from their herd and pushed them over the mountain into our area.

My neighbor (and my girls' favorite babysitter) has been training to be a vet tech and has experience with livestock, so I called her to come help. The three of us did much running and dashing and sliding and speedily changing directions to catch the animals. It was something to see- too bad you weren't there to make fun of us.

Her mom arrived shortly after we'd caught them animals and volunteered to hold the goat (she's wearing a pirate hat as part of bet she had going with her 8 year old son and it certainly added to the comedy of the situation).

 Animal control finally arrived to save the day! Well, pick up the animals anyways :)
