August - part 3

On our way home from Idaho we stopped at the Bannock-Shoshone Indian Museum. During the upcoming school year Nyah and Olivia's commonwealth clubs will be reading about this time period. Specifically, Nyah will be reading a biography of Sacajawea, whose family tribe is the Bannock-Shoshones.

Yes, the price tag says $439.00. Beautiful beadwork, but a little out of my price range.

August - part 2

While Kurt was gone the kids and i went to Idaho for a few days to see my parents. We also were able to see Jesse and her 2 boys- Jude and Cieran. My girls were in love with Cieran.

Sophie and Jude had a few rough moments being 2 and not inclined to share.

We went to the zoo one day. Sophie was thrilled with the petting area.

Our main goal while at the zoo was to take pictures to give to my dad for his birthday:

August - part 1

The last 5 weeks has been super wild & crazy. Kurt was gone around 20 days (a couple weekend trips and a 2 week trip to Europe) and I was trying to stay sane. Not an easy task with my crew :)

Austin, Nyah, and Olivia took a personal safety class (RADKids) and that left me with only my Jolie and Sophie girls. We had lots of fun shopping, playing at parks, and reading to a dog at the library.

Visiting a chocolate store when Kurt was home

Eating out when he wasn't :)

Reptile show at the library - the guy was moving so much my pictures are all blurry. He and his assistant are carrying a giant boa constrictor in this picture in case you can't tell what is going on.

We had a couple weeks with this as our view - lightning struck a couple miles away and it took a couple weeks to get the fire under control. This picture was when the national guard afghanistan training city was burning, which I believe was made out of some type of plastic, thus the nasty smoke and smell. Thankfully, our neighborhood wasn't ever in danger.

Hey!

I hope you are having a wonderful summer - I know we are!

We've been busy going to the farm and dinosaur museum, swimming, playing at the beach, filling the sand box with water, building forts out of couch cushions, playing at parks, hanging out with friends, scout camps, soccer games, late nights, sleeping in, and soaking up the sunshine.

I've been reading and listening to:

Positive Discipline by Jane Nelson, and lots of her other books/publications- Birth to 5, 1001 Solutions, podcasts, and so on - and I'm trying to wrap my head around an entirely different way of parenting. LOVE IT!!

Brad Thor - his Scot Harvath series has me trapped - MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!

Thomas Jefferson Education, A New Commonwealth School, and other TJED books - confession: I'm not a big fan of Thomas Jefferson Education (a homeschool philosophy). It kind of rubs me the wrong way, but we have an opportunity for the kids be part of a commonwealth school and if it means I need to read some books I disagree with, I'll do it. Hopefully, I don't bump heads with too many other parents :)

Several failed attempts at finding good modern, romantic comedy literature. It's a scary literary world.

Northanger Alibi by Jenni James- Blah. First, Northanger Abby is my least favorite Jane Austin book. Second, teenager pop culture books bug me. Third, it was just okay. I'm slightly more hopeful Pride & Popularity and Persuaded will be better. Slightly.
Watching:

Monk - it's growing on me

And for my foreign movie fix: Mere Brother Ki Dulhan - Bollywood must be taken in small doses.

August will be super busy around here - too bad summer can't last forever!!
