Sunday Adventure

An interesting side note to Kurt fixing the grass: While he was working, and Jolie and I were admiring his work, Olivia locked us out of the house. She locked the basement door, I didn't want to walk on the grass to go up the stairs to the back door, the front door was locked, and when I opened the garage the door to the house was locked too. Who could be so vigilant at keeping the doors locked (and so prevent children from escaping)?? I wonder.

I pounded on the front door, but Austin and Nyah were upstairs and either couldn't hear or couldn't be bothered to come see what was going on. Dade didn't even have the decency to bark at the front door like he normally does to alert Austin and Nyah that someone was there. That's what I get for being the only person he doesn't bark at. Olivia came up from the basement, but only stared at me through the window. Apparently she can lock doors, but can't unlock them.

In the end I used the board Kurt had been using to cross the grass to the stairs, and fortunately found the back door unlocked. What a lovely Sunday morning adventure!!

Princesses & Princes

I am a child of royal birth.
My father is King of heaven and earth.
My spirit was born in the courts on high.
A child beloved, a princess (or prince) am I

Anna Johnson

This was in my lesson for the CTR 6B's today, and its one of my favorite poems from my young women days. It was with the following story:

Once there was a king whose son, the prince, was captured and taken far away from his home.

His captors tried to force the prince to do wrong. They tried to teach him to be unkind to the people around him. They used bad language and tried to make him swear. They tried to force him to lie, cheat, and steal. They even tried to force him to take foods and drink that weren’t good for his health. But not once did the prince do any of these bad things. Finally, after six months of this terrible treatment, the captors asked the prince, “Why won’t you do what we want you to do?”

He answered, “I cannot do what you ask, because I am the son of a king, and my father has taught me to do what is right. I was born to be a king.”

I hope all of you know who you are born to be-- Princesses & Princes!!
Lots of Love!!

"I wouldn't even be who I am."

I want to share a quote from an article I was reading today that really stood out to me.

"A couple years ago, my grandson Christian was turning eight and planning his baptismal service with great anticipation. He asked his mother if I could be one of the speakers and share my conversion story. When I asked him why he wanted me to do that, he replied, "Grandma, that is so important. Do you realize that if you hadn't accepted the gospel, I wouldn't be getting baptized? I wouldn't even be who I am." (Silvia H. Allred, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency, "Go Ye Therefore," Ensign Nov. 2008, p.10-12).

From pioneers crossing the plains, to others headed west for the gold rush, to my mother and my husband (I love you both!!) in these latter-days, I am grateful for the people who made the choice to embrace the gospel. With Austin turning eight this year and going to be baptized, and my girls growing up just as fast, I get to watch another generation being blessed by the choices of these wonderful people. Without them I wouldn't be who I am!
