Jolie's Tongue

The picture doesn't look nearly as bad as the actual injury. Jolie bit her tongue very badly two days ago when she was falling with her hands full and hit her chin on the floor. She was gushing blood for about 5 minutes before it finally slowed, but it would start bleeding again any time she ate or had a drink.

We went to the doctor's but they only put stitches into the tongue when it is hanging off. Do I really need to say how relieved I am that we didn't fall into that category? Not just because her tongue wasn't hanging off, but because its torture to get stitches into little kids. And we've never had to do the tongue before-- I was thinking sedation would have to be involved.

It has stopped hurting her, or I should say she doesn't cry out in pain when its time to eat or drink something now. There is a really huge bump on her tongue - we are wondering just how it will look when it is healed.

Cute pics & Snow today (boo, hiss)

This past weekend we had Jesse & Justin visiting- this is almost the only picture I took while they were here, and the bright and sunny morning made it hard for my camera to focus.

Stepping away from the computer for a moment is dangerous business- she has opened and closed programs, changed settings, unplugged my ipod (you know, when it says not to) and done all sorts of mischievious things.

I guess I was too slow in getting Jolie her hot cocoa so she helped herself to Olivia's

Snow, glorious snow!!!
Just kidding, I don't like being cold.
But that doesn't mean I get to stay inside by the fireplace sipping hot apple cider.
Oh no.
My talents are demanded outside.
Olivia wanted a snow man, I complied, and she knocked it over after I took this picture. After all my hard work, sniff.
Austin racing in to go to the bathroom just after getting outside.
Jolie froze! She wouldn't keep her gloves on so her hands were purple, even after being inside for 20 minutes.
Nyah is in pink.

At least the older kids are loving the snow, and have spent hours out there already.

Learning names

Note: Olivia thinks clothing should be optional, and occasionally gets away with it because I'm not around when she undresses.

American Fork Canyon

Yesterday we went hiking in American Fork Canyon. Well, we did the Canyon Nature Trail which is 0.4 miles round trip, so it was more of a walk than a hike, but we had a wonderful time.

Just so you know . . .

Silly putty is not a good thing for a girl to fall asleep with in bed.

Especially when she ends up in my bed after a nightmare.

Now, how to get silly putty off comforters and sheets. Google time.

Chipmunk stealing socks or ???

A conversation from yesterday, as well as I can remember it, illustrating a key difference between men and women:

Me: (after noticing Kurt and I are running low on clean socks) Where are all our socks going? I just did laundry, but maybe it's time to get some more.

Kurt: (in all his innocent seriousness) Maybe we have a chipmunk running around the house taking our socks?

Me: (laughing) As opposed to just losing them ourselves?

Kurt: Well I don't know, how would we lose them?

I guess guys don't take all the missing sock references in tv, movies, commercials, etc., seriously. But we women KNOW socks vanish without a trace all the time. I have a pile of them in my laundry room in the unlikely chance the match will turn up.

Playing at the Park

Kurt had to work on Saturday so to stave off insanity we headed to a park. I don't have much to say about these except that my kids are so entertaining, much better than tv. This is why I like taking insane amounts of pictures of them, even if we find ourselves at yet another park.

Cornbelly's

Yesterday, we had a homeschool field trip to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point. We were completely exhausted when we left! Tons of fun, but lots of work with 4 kids dashing off in 4 different directions at the same time, all the time.

Bouncing pillows
Jolie is our only kid who doesn't love being tossed up in the air-- she clings onto our arms and screams in a half happy-half terrified way. This was also her reaction to the bouncing pillows. She did like sliding down the sides.
Next stop, the slides.
Olivia had a blast
Austin & Jolie on the leftWouldn't have been a complete expereince without a plastic cow to sit on.
Austin and Nyah were especially sad this guy and some of the other activities were closed during the daytime.
Trains! Trains! Trains are one Olivia's favorite things. This is the only picture of us in the corn maze, which ended up being a bad idea once we got inside and lost. The little two were so tired by the time we found our way out (through the entrance) that Olivia was dragging her feet and I was carrying Jolie. The paper with hints they gave us was confusing and the text hints weren't helpful either.
Good place to eat a cookie
Now that is a rocking chair

Idaho Falls

We spent this past weekend at my parents in Idaho Falls. I forgot to take my camera memory card (yes again!), so I just took a few pictures with my phone on an outing we took to a park. We didn't think of taking bread or popcorn to feed the birds until we were there, so we ended up feeding them part of a box of teddy grahams.

Happy to be outdoors, throwing rocks into the water
I think the little girls are trying to decide how close they want to get.
Jolie decided getting closer would be okay if she had her dad with her.
Trying to see in the water
Explorer Nyah
A small group of ducklings adopted Austin and kept following hiw around even after he ran out of snacks. Trying to stay close to his little band of ducklings somehow led Austin to fall into one of the ponds. He wasn't happy to hear he had to stay in his cold, wet clothes.
Posing everyone in a tree wasn't as easy as I first thought it would be - everyone was worried about falling!
